Often I find myself reading and thinking and wanting to write about Serious Things. To add a little sunshine, I weave in a series of mini posts called Tidbits of Joy about things that are making me smile at the moment. Maybe they’ll make you smile too.
The air is brisk here in New Hampshire – there’s frost on the car windows, and I grudgingly put on my orange puffy coat when I go out. Long, dark wintertime has already begun, even though the official start date is over a month away. It’s time to hole up with these tidbits of joy and brace for the first real snow.
The Good Wife: I’m late to the game, but The Good Wife is a fabulous TV show. It’s available through Amazon Prime Instant Video, and I’m in the middle of the first season. It has more depth than your typical formulaic lawyer drama, but you don’t have to think too hard. Perfect relax-time or laundry-folding TV.
Slippers: Last January we took a family trip to Walmart to purchase new shoes for me, several sizes bigger than the norm, to fit my gigantically waterlogged post-partum feet. If you’ve ever had surgery like a C-section, you know what I’m talking about. It’s gross and weird and frustrating (and it goes away after a few weeks, but not before you’ve convinced yourself that your feet are going to be fat forever). One of my purchases was a pair of slippers in a faux suede. They are lined with fake fur and sufficiently warm and comfy. In my heart of hearts, I’d prefer snazzy real suede ones, but I’m loving my knock-offs right now.
Creating Memes: Up until recently, I only vaguely knew what a meme was … one of those funny quote picture things that people pass around Facebook or Pinterest. I definitely didn’t know how to pronounce it. (It’s “Meem” … one syllable. Not “Mey-Mey” or “Me-Me” like I originally thought.). Anyone can create one. All you need is a photo (your own or a stock photo) and some sort of program to add in the words. For photos, I like Pixabay, which currently provides free photos that don’t require attribution. I’ve used the free MEME Generator app on my phone to add the words. It’s a fun thing to play around with if you are only mildly creative but like to pretend you’re a genius. Behold my beautiful meme below.
That’s all for now.
